Through a new Communication, the EU highlights trade-led growth as
central to the modern development agenda. The Communication puts forward a
range of proposals to make trade and development instruments work hand-in-hand
toensure real poverty reduction across the world. The proposals aim
at reinforcing the trade capacities of developing countries by making trade
part of their development strategy. This Communication makes explicit
reference to CSR, appealing to companies to take more account of
human rights and the social and environmental impact of their activities. In
another document on Trade and Private Sector Policy and Development Programmes,
the European Commission has elected “Doing business with the poor” at the Base
of the Pyramid (BoP) as a priority topic for their funding programmes on
development. Download
the communication or find out more about CSR Europe’s own initiatives
for Sustainable
Business at the BoP. CSR Europe’s members can download the EU
insight on the Communication, other related and useful EC documents
