New York) – Addressing the Global Compact Board on the occasion of its last meeting in 2011, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today called on Board Members to intensify efforts to advance public-private partnerships in support of critical development challenges.
Stressing the importance of next year’s UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) as an opportunity to bring the partnership agenda to full scale, the Secretary-General asked that the Global Compact Board “reconstitute itself as a Global Compact Partnership Board, with the capacity to provide guidance on the rapidly evolving sustainable development agenda”.
“Public-private partnerships have the potential to deliver truly
transformational, systemic change,” the Secretary-General added. “Many of the solutions
and innovations already exist. At Rio, let us fully utilize this historic
opportunity.”
A full report of this Board Meeting will be available shortly.
