Pilar Unzalu, the Minister for the Environment, Territorial Planning, Agriculture and Fisheries for the Basque Government, will present the prizes at the European Business Awards for the Environment- Basque Section, during a public ceremony which will take place in Bilbao.
In the current edition there have been 28 entrants and the awards are
divided into four categories covering those activities which promote
sustainable development: environmental management; processes; products; and
international co-operation between businesses.
These awards, organised by the European Commission, were created in
1987 in celebration of World Environment Year, and their raison d'ĂȘtre is to
give public recognition to those organisations who, through their activities,
contribute to the fulfilment of the principles of sustainable development and
whose efforts set an example for other companies to follow.
The awards, which are the most prestigious in the field of sustainable
business development on the European stage, are the only awards concerning the
environment which are handed out by the Basque Government, and therefore
represent an important recognition for the winning companies.
