An initiative to safeguard environmental interests
in the development of existing and future British standards is set to get
underway next week, with the support of BIS and BSI.
The UK Environmental Network for Standardisation (UK
ENS) will be formally launched at a one-day workshop by charity Waste Watch to
spearhead sustainability and environmental protection in the realm of
standardisation.
A UK-wide initiative, the network will facilitate
the participation of technical experts representing environmental and other
civil society interests in the technical committees that develop standards
across a wide range of sustainability concerns.
Standards are created by bringing together the
experience and expertise of key stakeholders such as producers, sellers,
buyers, users and regulators of a particular material, product, process or
service.
Waste Watch is seeking support from partner
organisations and individuals working across social and environmental
sustainability, including NGOs, academic institutions, consultancies and
professional associations.
